June 23, 2011In Guitar Aficionado's July/August issue, METALLICA lead guitarist Kirk Hammett takes us on guided tours of his idyllic Hawaiian estate and sumptuous Bay Area home. Hammett discusses his love of surfing, vintage guitars, and classic horror film memorabilia with unprecedented candor and detail.
Behind-the-scenes footage from Guitar Aficionado's Hammett photo shoot in Hawaii can be seen below.
METALLICA has confirmed rumors that it will play a corporate gig in San Francisco at a party hosted by Salesforce.com, a cloud computing company that provides cloud-based applications and solutions for businesses to enhance their sales and customer service capabilities. The company is hosting its annual convention called Dreamforce in San Francisco, and METALLICA got involved through Hammett's friendship with Salesforce.com chief executive officer Marc Benioff, who is his neighbor.
The band said in a statement at its web site, "Following in the footsteps of Neil Young, the FOO FIGHTERS, BLACK CROWES and Stevie Wonder, we are excited to announce that we have been invited to play at the ninth annual Salesforce.com Dreamforce convention at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on Wednesday, August 31. It promises to be quite the party . . . Where else can you learn everything you ever wanted to know about cloud computing during the day and then rock out with the 'TALLICA at night?"
The statement adds that the band is giving away hundreds of tickets to fan club members through its official fan club web site.
This isn't METALLICA's first corporate gig the band played a party in Los Angeles thrown by Activision last year to promote the release of the new video game Call Of Duty: Black Ops.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, corporate concerts like this have been known to fetch anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million for artists.
METALLICA recently revealed that it was finishing up work on a previously unannounced collaborative album with Lou Reed, although a title and release date for the disc have yet to be solidified.
Producer Rick Rubin, who worked with the group on 2008's "Death Magnetic", told Billboard earlier this week that METALLICA is also preparing to write the songs for its 10th studio album on its own.
